I cannot believe it is now 2022 and I am able to track back this blog to pen down my thoughts today 14 September 2022. The last entry was in 2015. What a busy man I am, trying to sort the body-worn camera to make it work for my operations.

It is the last round of ICT (In camp training) before MR (Military Reserve). It was a second, and unexpectedly, the last mission of being the enemy team to the Rangers instead of the second last. Have to be grateful to our counterpart, which is another team of our reservist men along us who had volunteered to fight the last mission today as the enemies of the Rangers. The Rangers (trainees) are a general mixture of Commando NSFs and regulars of Commandos plus any other regulars from other units that are 'on' and 'fit' enough to take up the challenge. Ultimately, they want to earn the right to don the ranger tab on their shoulders and be part of the Special Forces. Those who cleared Rangers are deemed to be the tough and respectable nuts. Failure rate seems to be 30% to 50%. The Rangers went through the toughest time during the period of training, to work under stress and fatigue, with combat rations mostly as their meals, and hardly any baths available, not forgetting, any risk of abrasions, blisters, superficial injuries or infections. They are also being verbally abused by the Cadres, as apart of the boot training. But with their slim body features at this phase of training and tender age, things would be fine.

The Rangers would have to cut their hair like a recruit, and remove their ranks to signify humility and 'everyone's equal', so that the Cadres would not recognize the ranks of the individual and able to deal with the Rangers impartially. The Rangers went through the attributes of hardships such as to work under intense stress, both physically and mentally, while the 'mind over body' comes in. At an initial phase of time, they are heard to be well fed, and then the next period of time, all are fed with U.S combat rations, or even limited to no food for them, which test their hunger limits. However, what I felt the whole wing lack of, is the further Research and Development on their battle tactics syllabus. Also I am not sure about is during the Haze, the Rangers are not being issued any N95 marks (whether it is to signify being a tough nut, one do not need the N95 mask, or was it due to the mission requirement that as long as they do not see or hear any physical hazardous from the trainnes, N95 mask should not be used). At least the Commando NSmen have been issued the N95 mask, when next to the Rangers.

As a Commando NSman myself, I see that the Ranger training as almost similar, but most probably added on is the syllabus of the CSLC course and concentrated a little more with demolition and 1 men night TOPO. If I am still updated, all Rangers should at least went through a leadership course or with at least the rank of a 3rd Sergeant and above. As for me, a Commando NS man, it has always been a pride and glory to be part of the Special Forces once in the 2 years, and once again, every ICT. Though it had never meant to be 'men in black' with 'balaclava' in the Special Operations Force or the 'men in green' in light strike vehicle plus 'balaclava' in the Regular Force, it is good enough to be a gurung 'man in green' with camou and jungle hat as an elite basic Commando. Sometimes, I think we could almost shift abit more to 'Rambo kind' of image. In fact, this is what I am, someone who is a fanatic of Special Forces and on milder side, Security. The Commandos formation is the elite unit of SAF. Because trainees have to put in more effort in everything to train harder, run faster, march further, fight harder, and never say die, not forgetting leave no men behind, and foster brotherhood and team work in the detachment. Training includes sea by boat, air by jumps, land by covert operations with limited but heavy loads to survive long range and to conduct convert strikes and to avoid detection and minimize detection.

Upon reflection as an enemy simulation, the urban battle tactics of the Rangers might cause high casualty rate among themselves, if they did not make enough surveillance, and raid by miscalculation. The enemies who has been on their ground and location would be much familiar than the Rangers and the security perimeters and fortress would have been built by then to prevent raids, or at least longer and thicker layers of infiltrations, which the enemy has the time to react. Therefore it takes much more than that to raid a location.

Scenario: 3 Huts in urban area to raid. 1 is the HQ with high value target as hostage but unknown to the Rescuers. Fortress such as con wires installed around the buildings with real time security cameras around. Doors all locked and closed in HQ with highest security. Fake target boards all in front of the closed doors to distract all rescuers. All time prowlers around. Sentry stationed at most point of the building. Inside the building how many sentry, unknown. Best raid time, Dawn.

Accuracy of fatigue level of the Rangers and Enemies, 40%. By dawn, the Rangers would have stood good choice, given the enemy like only the 2 prowlers are moving around. Most enemies would have slept, so it is better to really attack at dawn then late evening during the exercise.

To avoid casualty in the Good Force? Depends on luck, but likely not possible.

My after action reviews of them:

First Team action: First Ranger Team attack unexpected with MG from a dark distance in bushes. Enemy decoyed. Rangers attack in buddy pairs from a few points. Enemy scattered. Enemy MG at a location can fire openly at any available Rangers if sharp enough. Random casualty rates, yes. Stretcher through con wire to get through the front. Rangers Mission success rate. 70% possible, but with 1 to 3 casualties.

Second Team action: Second Ranger Team attack unexpected from a far distance in the second level of building. Most enemies takes cover in building including QRT, while the few waited outside the perimeter. Enemy MG standby. Sound was heard breached only into the HQ building of fortress. Enemies had some times to standby all in the main area upon hearing the noise of the Rangers raiding the back 2 compartments one by one, before coming into the main area, which the enemies had sufficient time to off the lights and take cover in an ideal position to standby for the last door to open to the main area. All Rangers main detachment attack from the same side, and only 1 at another building parallel. Once door opened, enemies all fired from different angles and position into the 1 door. Random casualty rates, yes. Mission success 50% possible, with at least 3 to 5 Rangers casualties shot during the last breach of doors to the main area. In real, the second Rangers team would have sustained high casualty rate with most like the 4th or 5th Rangers putting up the fire fight and retreating.

Lucky all the above firing mentioned was with blanks, so arguably, it will not be accurate enough to determine the success or failure rate until test set, paintball, or live rounds has been used.

Anyway, these are all my personal views from my angle of interpretations at the point of observation.
More development such as the usage of correct breaching and banging tools can be deployed before raiding the rooms, or at least the opening of doors should be more tactical, eg open from the side and the rest take cover at side with one prone in front or a smoke grenade can be deployed before entry, to gather for any shots or responses from enemy.

For Honour and Glory.

Taipei

I went to Taipei with dear and her parents. The 1 week took from 07 June 2014 to 14 June 2014. The wedding shoot lasted a day with Lishe, but the entire one week, we planned our free and easy trip, and had lots of walking.

Taipei is the northern part of Taiwan, it is a very clean city. Despite little dustbins around, the ground never seem to have obvious rubbish or trash around. The food is also cheap and good. Hotel services are excellent, despite hotel is only 2 or 3 stars. Taxi services are ethical as well. Even public toilets has no lack of toilet rolls, and toilet seats has seats paper for people to place and used. The MRT has also good guiding lines for passengers to follow the queue and move in. Road traffic lights have around 90 seconds for people to cross. At some places, there is a diagonal criss-cross for road crossing. In fact, I feel that Singapore has really a lot to learn from Taipei.

The food such as porkchop rice, chicken drumstick rice, bento, wildboar meat sausage, and black pig meat sausage are all delectable delicacy one should try.

The fast food such as KFC does not provide any sauces, while Mcdonald only serves Tomato sauce, and not chilli. Perhaps, Taiwan people does not seem to have the habit to eat chilli or chilli sauce.

Tian Bu La fried version has heard to be diminishing, given the food price and exclusive oil standard needed to fried the stuff, while horse betting has been abolished over the past 8 years.

Anyway, our brief itinerary:

First day arrival and check in to hotel, went to Taipei civil building to walk and have our first meal at the underground mall.

2nd day went to Zhong Zheng Memorial hall and Lishe photographer

3rd day wedding shot at various locations from university building to natural spring to waterfall

4th day to Xi Men Ding and then Lishe for photo selection, and then to Ferris Wheel area

5th day to Kitty Cable car at Hill area cum Zoo and then check in to Cannes Car motel

6th day to IT mall, and departmental stall, followed by Taipei 101 and Raohe night market

7th day to Ulay natural mountain area waterfall.

8th day back to Singapore evening.

Happy 2014!

It has been awhile, since I last penned down my thoughts at my very own blog. Luckily, I could remember this blog and is now attempting to revive it. Want to wish everyone a Blessed and Happy New Year!

What is my resolution for the year? Let me put them down:

1) To slim down (Got to lose up to 5kg to make it ideal. In fact, need 10kg to make it perfect).

2) To gain promotion (Hard, but possible. Gaining promotion or at least, increment would serve as the next best alternative. Ultimate, job satisfaction must play a major role. If the current does not permit, elsewhere is there for one to search).

3) To take wedding shots (Planned. Will execute actions with dear and her family).

4) To be trained in tactical firearms at Artemis Defence (This is for the love and passion of tactical and Special forces. To be involved in tactical and self-defence, for counter-terrorism interest and 'fantasy').

5) To earn more money (Job that are not sales, tend to have fix salary with some periodically 50/50 increment. Therefore more freelance or part time jobs on weekend might be a viable solution. Must make it happen).

Alright, once again, those who see this, shall be Prosperous and have a very happy and elated 2014!Cheers!

CIA Spies:
CG (2 USv- Pakistani men significantly gather all intel closely concluding Osama could be in the building)

ZDT (Showing a portion where a spy was being tasked to go into the hideout to gather info, but unsuccessfully - Less Detailed, only reflecting how many NUMBER of days they have been observing the buildings. Less concrete evidence to viewers to suggest OSAMA is inside)

Political Agenda:

At the Islamabad Pakistan Building hideout:
CG (Sentry can be seen being alerted, and the family men and children can be seen woken and frightened, while the men can be seen preparing for defence standing by with their AK, after the landing of the blackhawks. Animal sound like sheeps and dogs can be heard).
ZDT (Building continues to be quiet and dark even after the blackhawk has landed loudly, and sentry does not seems to be alerted, even though the SEALs are around moving around stealthily, with bridging on doors with loud sound that defeat the steal mode. Animal sounds like the sheeps can be heard)

Firefight:
CG (More intense. It depicts more men or sentry shooting at the SEALS, before being killed themselves, and most male than female are being killed. AK rifles could be seen prominently with the men being killed)
ZDT (Less intense. It depicts that the SEALS is only shooting and aiming at both male and female, killing most of the male they saw, no AK rifles was seen prominently being held by most of the males they killed. The killing seems to be less justified).

During battle
CG (Civilians making commotions over the hearing of battle at the hideout, while the 2 US-Parkistani Spies tried to block off the civilians bluffing them stated it was a 'National Security Operation' in progress, and urged them to leave the area. The police had also arrived with confusions from the 2 parkistani spies trying to explain that it is a 'National Security Operation' , confusing the police officers on ground, and buying time for the mission in progress.
ZDT(A few civilians were seen standing on the building roof area watching the battles, and many walking towards the battle hideout, with the Spy cum Navy SEAL fellow speaking in Pakistani language repeatedly asking them to 'Back off' from the areas,  and warning by another counterpart that he will shoot'.

Raid door detail:
CG (Less detailed on the step of raiding the door).
ZDT (More detailed on the step of raiding the door).

ZDT (Geronimo, codename for Osama, only being mentioned once after the killing of Osama)

Last stand
CG (A tall figure from beard down can be seen as the last level of battle standing by for defence while awaiting SEALs arrival)
ZDT (A SEAL can be heard moving around pronouncing 'OSAMA's names multiple time in a soft and jovial tone, to attract OSAMA's attention.)

Killing of OSAMA.
CG (Shown OSAMA trying to use the wife to cover him while firing and got both got killed together).
ZDT (Shown someone barely being spotted from room by one of the SEALs and then got shot together with the wife, and the SEALs got the daughters to verify his father's name to confirm that he is indeed 'OSAMA BIN LADEN')

OSAMA look alike
CG (Yes, appearance closely look alike)
ZDT (I don't think so, not even close)

ENDING
CG (Announce outcomes such as the outcome of the US-Pakistani 2 spies being caught, and political news related to OBAMA and the PAKISTAN Minister shaking hands, has adequate ending, and felt completed)
ZDT (Depict the CIA lady agent alone introspecting the post mission and ended there, felt alittle abrupt and dissapointed).

With the 2 comparision, and base on most of the positive factors, my vote goes the Code Name Geronimo(Now known as the Navy SEAL, the hunt for OSAMA) with 17 positive points, and Zero Dark Thirty, with 9 positive points, though it may be award winning.

The psychological effect may be such that if one were to watch Geronimo prior to Zero Dark, the visual viewer will be more statisfied with the former, while if one were to watch Zero Dark first, the Geronimo version may seem slightly 'childish' in a simpler term.

I disagree with the new title for Geronimo as 'Navy SEAL, the hunt for OSAMA' , as i felt that the whole 'Geronimo' movie does not focus on the SEALs totally, but rather, on the mission itself, while 'Zero Dark Thirty' may encompass a wider array of thoughts, planning, and actions, more mature theme in the whole portrayal. Ultimately, my vote still goes for the former, with the details in hand, and base on my tolerance factors for visual details and effect, Geronimo gives me a better satisfaction for a 'real depiction' military mission movie.

Values for Re-affirmation

Quarter 4 of the year 2012. Will there be an apocalypse, or would it be just another anticipated suspenses of emptiness? This I would leave it to see.

During my sabbatical, I thought that it was really life, as I would like to take a break and to do what I want to do, study what I want to study, and work to gain the experience on what I need to gain the experiences on(though it was on a freelance basis). However, sooner in life, after the courses and studies are over, completed and done with, with overlapping transition, a job in the training, education, or marketing roles is a vision for the 3 industries which I set myself for, to secure a place in.

Training & Development role, which relates to HR would really be my first choice. After years of a synthesis of thoughts, experience, interactions, self-reflections, i finally found that i am someone who is really into T & D. Initially my administration and customer services roles in PEI had put me further to in exam administration, ultimately over the months, the feel of training ,engaging learners and even teachings brought me great satisfactions. The feel of vocal power, movement, and engagement of students and learners bring satisfactions without missing sweat, anxiety, preparation, adrenalin, before, during, in the midst, or even after the teaching or training. This proves to be better than sitting still, letting blood flows to the butt and facing the PC workstations from 9am to 6pm, causing eye sore, blurriness, and even floaters around the pupils of the eyes, which in turn, affect the brain's normal working functions, thus causing much errors in paper work. But to work in the HR industry requires years of experience, before given a chance.

I do question a few: if the selfished ones require people with experiences to work for them in order to benefit their own organisations, then who will give the people without experiences, a chance to gain the experiences? I am not suggesting all employers should be kind, but they should at least have a scheme to hire people who is interested in an industry, yet need to acquire the experience from the start.

The 2nd industry is Teaching & Learning related. I may not need to be an Academic Directly, but given by my attainment, i would really wish to acquire more years of indutry experience before giving lectures of modules such as Management, PR, Communications, Marketing etc. So which one? I would say it depends on the next decade on where i am. Definitely in theory related modules, i should be fine.

4 Values for Affirmations I acquire over in life are:

Discipline and Respect : From the time I was in Martial Arts.
Endurance, Perseverence and Tenacity : From the time I was in the Army Commandos.
Power, Principle, Attitude, and Goal Oriented: Now, and cultivating!

My Creed:

Aspire to aim high and far.

Be productive and contribute to the economy and the society is important to living a good purpose of life.

In a relationship itself, it may not always be perfect, but it can always be beautifully imperfect. 'Acceptance' may be the keyword to succeed in love.

Believe in constant self-development and lifelong learning.

Travel around to any countries not visited before helps to gain greater exposure and expanding the horizon of the brain.

Optimise your loving heart to the needy and the old aged. Be pefectly understood that one will get old or sick one day.
